0:00Welcome to Huberman Lab Essentials, where we revisit past episodes for the most potent and actionable science-based tools for mental health, physical health, and performance.
0:11I'm Andrew Huberman, and I'm a professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford School of Medicine.
0:17And now for my discussion with Rick Rubin.
0:19Great to have you here today, Rick.
0:21Thank you for having me.
0:22It's a pleasure.
0:23Of all the topics in science and in particular in neuroscience, I confess that creativity is the most difficult one to capture.
0:31As I went into your book, the example that you give, this idea that ideas and creativity are a little bit like a cloud.
0:39If you look at it one moment, you might think that it looks like one thing.
0:44But then you look at it a moment later, it could be quite a bit different.
0:47And if you look at it an hour later, it very well could be gone.
0:50How did that come to you?
0:51And how does it serve you in trying to, I don't want to say extract, but trying to access creativity?
0:57I think the best way to think about it is like a dream.
