0:00You're listening to LifeKit from NPR.
0:08Hey, it's Marielle.
0:10I want you to think about the last time you knew you had to do something or you wanted to do something, at least in theory.
0:17But then the moment came and you just didn't have the juice.
0:20You got scared or you started to doubt yourself.
0:23You lost motivation.
0:25Friend, I believe what you needed in that moment was a pep talk.
0:29I have to give myself a pep talk every single time I parallel park.
0:33And I live in Chicago, so I am constantly parallel parking.
0:36And every single time without fail, I have to talk myself down, remind myself I can do it, remind myself that I've done it before, that I'm capable.
0:48And I don't think that will ever change.
0:49I think I'll just never get used to parallel parking.
0:51And I will just have to keep being used to giving myself the pep talks.
0:54This is Paula Skaggs.
0:56She and fellow writer Josh Linden wrote a book together called Tiny Pep Talks.
